5 Things I Never Do as a Makeup Educator!
Aug 07, 2025
After years of teaching thousands of students, I’ve seen what works and what really doesn’t when it comes to makeup education. Trends come and go, but authenticity, trust, and personalization never go out of style. So today, I’m sharing the five things I never do in my job and why these boundaries are what help my students actually learn and glow.
1. Force Trends That Don’t Feel Like “You”
Just because something’s trending doesn’t mean it belongs on your face. I’ll never push a viral hack or trending look if it doesn’t suit your features or vibe. My job isn’t to make you fit into a box it’s to help you discover what flatters you, enhances your features, and feels authentically you. Makeup should make you feel empowered, not like a copy-paste version of someone else.
2. Keep Makeup Secrets to Myself
If I wanted to gatekeep, I wouldn’t have gotten into teaching in the first place! If I discover a product that works, or a technique that makes makeup easier or better, you’re definitely going to hear about it or see it on my social media. I believe in sharing everything I know so you can get results without spending years doing the same trial and error I went through.
3. Skip Skin Prep and Jump Straight to Glam
No matter how skilled your hands are, makeup won’t sit right if your skin isn’t prepped. I’ll never skip moisturizer or skin prep. In fact, I emphasize it in every class. Hydrated, well prepped skin is the real secret behind that flawless, radiant finish we all love. Good makeup starts with good skin, always!
4. Give the Same Look to Every Face
I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach when it comes to makeup because our features, skin tone, face shape, and vibe are all unique and as a result your makeup should be too. Whether it’s a simple everyday look or something bold for an event, I tailor everything to help your specific needs.
5. Teach Without Listening First
I don’t assume. I ask. Before I teach anything, I want to understand you. What do you struggle with? What do you want to feel when you look in the mirror? Your comfort, goals, and personality shape everything I teach because at the end of the day, it’s your face, and your makeup should feel like yours.
In conclusion, being a makeup educator isn’t about trends, tricks, or textbook routines. It’s about people. And everything I teach is designed to help you feel more confident, more capable, and more you.
